I would say for all the problems we are going through the UK is still a desirable country to live in.
We are a tolerant race.
Sometimes you wouldn't think so the way some go on, but on the whole we are.

We have good employment opportunities.

We are still thought of highly in the world despite the recent political farces.

For most the small amount of people who choose to risk their lives in small boats is just sad rather than a huge problem. 40,000 is small in the scheme of things, but that is still way too many risking their lives.
Te people smugglers need dealing with.

140,000 left our shores for other countries to better their lives, it is just human nature to want better for your family.

As a country we have bigger problems to solve like the recession that is coming and the fuel crisis.
Unfortunately when things are not going so well,a minority blame everything on immigrants when of course it is those at the top who the anger should be aimed at
