- Re: Can anyone actually make a genuine case for...
The issues he faced at Stoke would have been very different to those being faced with us. He had Premiership wannabees with over inflated egos to deal with which he didn't have with us and probably never would have had.
Regarding his tactics and the diamond remember it took him ages to actually get it to work properly - even then there is debate as to whether he planned it or stumbled on it due to injuries and suspensions. Be that as it may, once it clicked we were unstoppable because it was a consistent system which everyone knew and understood. Compare that with the constant changes in formation that GJ makes during individual games.
I would have loved to have seen how our set up under NJ would have fared in the championship as we destroyed some teams on the journey - granted its a higher level but we were also playing above our level for much of the time under NJ. The cup runs showed we didn't disgrace ourselves against higher opposition.
Then there's the consistency of personnel. Everyone had a good understanding of their colleagues and their roles and positions. A settled team cemented this.
Now there are counter arguments to these points but I still think they have some validity (maybe not much). But obviously it's highly unlikely* to ever happen for the initial reasons you originally gave.
*although never say never.
