have you ever felt posh,I did feel posher when we had a landlady and where not living in a council house, so silly the council houses were so much better than are house,

They certainly were Norma. Well designed, well built and well needed.

Sadly, many young parents have no idea that once upon a time their local council built houses for heroes. Selling them started by that woman while not allowing the money to be put back into building more.

have to admit kay we bought are council house it wasnt cheap cardiff house prices are high This 2 bedroom house cost the same as my brother paid in oldham for a bungalow on a private estate,only bought it to be able to sell and move back home ,but i am still here,

Kayti as Mac was in the british army he had to tell th family officer he was getting married and was told get your name down on a council waiting list as you will never be able to buy a house on army pay,So what did Cardiff council offer us a pre war dirty house gas meter hanging of the wall floor board missing in the bedroom Mac had to go before the housing board to say why,All council should do the same as the army, Marched in and out of a house,and any damage paid for

Thats bad that Norm.

I can only speak about Sefton council ftom my view. Others might feel differently.

When a council place became empty council workers would go in the next day, repair, fix and paint where needed. Then the key was offered to the next suitable applicant.

I think here or at least 26 year ago,people moving into a council house had afew weeks rent free,

That was in 1966 i believe now people are given money to buy what needed to decorate or use the money to pay someone to do the work,when we moved into this house everythink was painted in grey wall and doors,I pained the living room wall pink,latter mac picked the wall paper which i hated it didnt last long
