Litherland House aka Council Offices

The large and impressive house dates from c1841/42

It was leasehold; the land belonged to John Naylor Wright.

The first occupant I can find was Charles Birch, a banker and county magistrate.

He was, at one time, a Liverpool councillor for the Castle Street ward.

He's buried in St. Mary's (All Saints) churchyard, Edge Hill.

The last occupant was William Garton, a surveyor.

Litherland Council purchased the property in 1904 as freehold.

Lovely house,think my cousin worked there for a time,about 1949,is that were you got bottle of orange juice and some kind of oil

Yes, used to get orange juice and cod liver oil from the new council offices, used to go with my mum sometimes to collect it.
