The large and impressive house dates from c1841/42 It was leasehold; the land belonged to John Naylor Wright. The first occupant I can find was Charles Birch, a banker and county magistrate. He was, at one time, a Liverpool councillor for the Castle Street ward. He's buried in St. Mary's (All Saints) churchyard, Edge Hill. The last occupant was William Garton, a surveyor. Litherland Council purchased the property in 1904 as freehold.
