Litherland Fire Brigade 1909

Photographed in Field Lane, the Elms in the background.

They took part in Bootle's May Day Parade - The route included Linacre Road, Bridge Road and Seaforth Road.

A volunteer must have a manly mustache as laid down by Superintendent Joseph Bates.

The Fire Brigade consisted of 12 volunteers plus Supt. Bates.

Bootle FB and the Salvage Corps could be called on too.

Maybe it trapped the smoke from a fire,going up there nose

A fine body of men. Like the brass helmets. And pretty brave as well to tackle fires with all the primitive gear that they had.

Cracking photo. They all look exactly the same with those taches and the uniforms!
