Horse brasses Posted by PeteH2 on 11/11/2025, 0:27:13 These horse brasses belonged to Bill Seddon of 85 Sefton Road. He was a farm labourer proficient in managing the big horses that powered the farms. He died suddenly in 1906 leaving a wife and 8 children.

Loved both galas, much looked forward to especially as a teenager. Unfortunately, by that time the horses had mostly been replaced with open top wagons. I was a morris dancer till about 12, but wanted to be in the jazz band. The concertina band were great, we were happy to be near them. Still going I presume, haven't been the Beaky for a long time.

She eventually married him. He was a cockney and about 20 years younger! Known as Bert. I’ve got a photo if you are interested. She certainly had a tough life. Born in the workhouse on Brownlow Hill and abandoned there. Was adopted and became a child servant in Crosby but made the best of things and married this Bill Seddon. After he died the two eldest daughters had to go into service. One of them to a farm in Litherland called Longhouse farm. WW1 broke out and she lost a son, John. She went on to live through WW2 and died soon after. A real survivor! There were 5 Bill Seddons one after the other, father then son. The first was born in about 1820 the latest is still alive and is my cousin. Sadly he had no sons.
