Cost of a funeral in 1945 Posted by Ronnie on 7/11/2025, 9:27:51 My maternal grandmother's funeral cost paid by her sister Emily. We lived next door to Aunty Em in Roade Street, us kids were terrified of her, a very strict Victorian lady. My grandmother's christian name wasn't Elizabeth it was Bessie, which she was known as. I have her birth certicate, she was born in Bootle cum Linacre. It took me years to locate her birth as I was looking for Elizabeth. Bessie is a diminutive of Elizabeth. Aunty Em had the first TV in the street, a 12" screen with a big magnifyng screen attached to it.

So I was told only recently when I enquired. I also had an endowment policy which I was allowed to cash and I went for the quick cremation with a tea/drink a few days later. Gave the rest to my daughter.
