AI expert wanted! Posted by PeteH2 on 1/11/2025, 20:57:38 Hi This photo is my grandmother Winefride Irwin nee Graham, taken in about 1920. I’ve tried a few ‘free’ AI sites where you upload your jpegs and the site repairs them maybe converts them to colour. Never works! Are there any recommendations of reliable ones? Cheers!

I used Photoshop first to adjust the Tone, Contrast, Colour - I then desaturate the image, which I find best when repairing/restoring and colourising an image. I then use Gemini AI for the excellent results, as you will see. If I need to enlarge an image I use Paintshop Pro which has an excellent AI script for enlarging an image.

She married Jim Irwin in 1924 who served in both the 4th Cheshires and the Imperial Camel Corps of all things. It’s neither of those so it probably means the photo was taken before they met post-war. The brooches are likely to have been out of fashion by then anyway. It must be from one of her own family, the Grahams of 55 Gloucester Road Bootle. I’ll have to look into that one. It does help to date the photo to the war years so she will be between 18 and 21 in the photos.

It’s like bringing the person back to life. I use Affinity Photo for my images but I’ve failed to get into using AI as well. Hence the attempt with the free sites which always failed! Thanks for putting the time in to do this, it’s much appreciated! Cheers
