The Flower Queen's Court

I was in the Band of Hope and Sunday School at Walker's Mission - I went to the Rechabites a few times.

I can't recall there being an event like the Flower Queens' Court.

We did do Harvest Festivals and I went on a Sunday School circular walk with my sister along Linacre Road, up Linacre Lane, along Litherland Road, Webster Street and back down Bowden Street.

It started in June, 1941 and ended March, 1949, Norma.

I remember my Dad youngest sister after seeing my wedding photos ,saying she was sorry she borrowed a wedding dress to save using coupons and regretted,wish she had bought her own new dress,

Being catholic we only walked around the church Inside,In cardiff the it different procession is outside,maybe if it a dry day,

Ronnie. I always thought that Band of Hope preached that it was a sin to drink alcohol?
If that is correct, it didn't work for you. No offense meant!!
I would have been a failed member had I joined.

I went to Linacre Mission with a friend, I am a Catholic and we had to swear that we would not drink alcohol. When I came home I told my Mum and she said "do you know you shouldn't even go into that church, and you are only seven so I'll make sure you don't at that age!" Like Ronnie it didn't work for me, I had my first drink on a date with my boyfriend and it was a Cherry Brandy. He bacame my husband even though I still liked the drfink which was expensive in late fifties. G and T is a drink I occasionly like but age and driving restricts it. Staying over with my son it might be two drinks.

I expect it was in days when some men with a family drank all there wages on a friday night went home with empty pocket,Women to day wouldnt put up with that,Mac would drink larger in Hong kong,when the weather was really hot,

I worked on a large building project, and on a Thursday night the number of wives who would be at the payoffice window when their husbands were paid was sad to see.

I was a bridemaid when my cousin got married I was the youngest one ,then it was the fashion for the youngest to be in white, so after the wedding I could wear the dress for OUR LADIES church
