My Dad was in North Africa,didnt come home till 1947,sent presents for Mum and me and a cake covered in chocolate,it was broken but who cared Cake and chocolate,PJ think the ones for Mum fit me a 6 year old,Not a child for kissing to me strange men hid in the toilet the day he had to go back to be demobed and given a suit

VE Day, my Dad was in Malta aboard HMS Duke of York.

My Uncle Val had crossed into Austria having fought all the way from North Africa, Sicily & Italy with the Royal Irish Fusiliers.

My Uncle Val must have had a Guardian Angel.

My Dad had my grandfathers war medals,day of dad funeral his sister asked for the medals,I was the eldest grandchild,so they should have been given to me,goodness knows who has them now,PS sadly her 2 son are both dead,was told one was a special medal

The special could have been the Military Medal or Distinguised Conduct Medal - A shame you don't have them.

My cousin has my paternal grandfather's WWI medals.

My maternal grandfathers WWI medals are lost.

I don't know a lot about medals but I find the VC fascinating.

Every VC that has been awarded has come from the one captured canon ball. Bronze and unstable but worth a fortune once presented, it's probably the most prestigeous military medal in the world.

I like the fact that Prince Albert played a big part in it's beginnings, and his wife of course.
