Great story Moira.

I don’t know too much about the land girls though they obviously carried on their work after 1945. This photo is 1951. I suppose there was still a shortage of men.
This girl is Elisabeth Halsall who lived in Sefton Road I don’t know anything about the other two girls.

My lists are only up to 1948 - Doreen may have joined after this date going by the year.

I will add her name to the Roll.

The WLA was officialy disbanded in October 1950.

Thanks Ronnie. I don’t know anything about Doreen, or Marjorie unfortunately! The girl I am familiar with is the one on the right Elizabeth Halsall. I couldn’t see her on your list and I suspect that land girl records in general are pretty incomplete! I wonder if they continued to work after 1950 just because there was work even though the organisation had disbanded?

Halsalls were allways very private people,I remember Phillip and 2 sister living at 87 sefton road,and Phillip getting that new shiny motor bike,my Dad had a Norton bike and sidecar and Phillip did come a few outing with my family

Hi Norma. The Phillip you knew had several siblings. An older brother, Joseph, married the girl next door, Elisabeth Seddon. They had 4 sons and 2 daughters. This girl is the elder of the 2 daughters. At the time of the photo they were living in Kirkstone Road North.
