Tales told me by elederly people when I was working as a Home carer,wales used to send welch coal all over the world,one lady and her brother and sister would watch the wagons going to the docks to load the ships with coal,Yet when we moved here 1968 couldnt get a monthly delivery of coal,My Dad sent me the money for the first month order,gave up in the end and got a gas fire,with a coal fire free hot water,

Don’t know the full story, but led to believe that coal from Welch pits is Anthrocite and the seams are some thing like only eight een inches, so hard to get.

Dont know anyone who worked down the coal pits,My uncle George was a Beven boy during the war,called up but worked in the coal mine in the uk,they said it was because he had always worked outside,
