When I'm doiing research, I alway use Litherland, Liderland, Lutherland, Leatherland, Litterland etc and some other spellings.
It is surprising the mistakes that are made by people transcribing documents in the past and OCR software for scanning and archiving documents.

I have lost count of the times since I have lived away,people asking where is litherland,gave up say North of England,after a late neighbour said the air would be to dirty for bugs,When I was complaining about garden bugs, green fly black fly,and the dreading white fly in the greenhouse,I had said my Dad didnt get as many inhis garden
