That’s really interesting Ronnie, thanks. The canal was a big part of kids lives in those days - regularly falling in and being rescued by older brothers. After WW2 my dads brother Joe kept pigs on the canal bank. There was mayhem one day when some pigs got in the water. Apparently they are in danger of cutting their own throats with their trotters when they swim.
