The large and impressive house dates from c1841/42
It was leasehold; the land belonged to John Naylor Wright.
The first occupant I can find was Charles Birch, a banker and county magistrate.
He was, at one time, a Liverpool councillor for the Castle Street ward.
He's buried in St. Mary's (All Saints) churchyard, Edge Hill.
The last occupant was William Garton, a surveyor.
Litherland Council purchased the property in 1904 as freehold.
