It's a unique image as the Lift-Bridge closed to Traffic midnight on the 14th June, 1974, the only vehicles allowed were those going to the Tar Works.

The new flyover opened for traffic on Saturday 15th June.

I got a surprise going to work on the Monday morning being diverted over the new flyover in my Moskvich van (loved that van)

Note the sweet shop has been demolished next to the old foot-bridge steps.

I could manage the ascent up to the bridge on my 3 gear Raleigh bike
