Norma do you have two hand rails on your stairs, that is what Sefton has done for me including a metal one that goes around the corner. I have 10 stairs to a small square and then another 3 to the landing. By the 3 steps they have fixed the metal one which is great as there was nothing there previously.
Get in touch with your Doctor and tell him you nearly fell and can he refer you to the council. I've also now got handrails in the shower and toilets and the front and back doors. I said I didn't need them all but they said I should use them before I have a fall and break my leg or hip. It was all free and done very quickly. The Occupational Therapist will come out and see you and may refer you to the Falls clinic for assessment. Make the most of it, my son was going to buy the equipment until the Doctor referred me.
