Funny what takes you back! I'm in Bristol and, to get to my hotel, I have to cross a modern metal footbridge over the River Avon. You can actually see the water sparkling beneath the bridge through a latticework of metal. Now, I'm not suggesting the canal 'sparkled' much but, in an instant, I was that small child again, terrified of crossing the bridge, because you coukd see the water through the gaps between the planks!!!
