Those old priests could be pretty intimidating Norma.

Back in the day, one of my relatives (name changed to save embarrassment), became the father of a second son. In those days the baptism took place very soon after birth so dad went along to the parish priest with the baby to get it baptised.

The priest made a few polite enquiries about the family and then got on with the baptism.

Let’s refer to the baby’s elder brother as ‘Joseph’.

The priest proceeded with the baptism and obviously becoming a little confused, named him Joseph rather than the name dad had chosen.

The dad was too fearful of the priest to point out the error and duly took the baby home to tell his wife ‘it’s another Joseph’.

You can imagine the response that got!
