I agree about the Western Approaches museum on Rumford Street, brilliant place for a visit.
Actually Rumford Place also has a great history. It once housed many American Civil War offices We were the confederate capital.:-)
I read a book once, not sure if you can still get it, called The American Connection. I seem to remember that the last act of the Civil War took place in the Mersey where the last Confederate war ship surrendered.
