She went a few times with my older brother to see Dr. Rees at his house in Litherland Park, he was also part of the practice on Linacre Road with Drs Williams and Novak during the war - They all at one time lived in nos. 2 and 60 Litherland Park.
Her description of the location of the house and Dr. Rees were spot-on (I have photos of both)
Dr. Williams was Litherland's Medical Officer of Health, on his death Dr. Rees was appointed.
Dr. Williams opened the first practice on Linacre Road in 1913/14
There was also the Penny-in-the-£ health scheme on Merseyside. My uncle spent time in a convalescent hospital in North Wales paid for by this scheme. I've gone into great detail about this scheme on the board in the past.
Infectious diseases in Litherland were treated at Linacre and Bootle hospitals if hospitalisation was needed. All blood, throat samples, etc were sent to Liverpool University. There was a TB dispensary clinic in Seaforth. Samples taken for TB were sent to Lancashire County Council Medical services, they also ran the school clinics in Litherland.
With regard to VD, people had to make their own arrangements with the Liverpool voluntary hospitals.
Medical services in Litherland before the NHS is a fascinating if not a complex subject, which I've researched over the years.
