The slipper baths were built about 1952 on the bomb-damaged bottom of Kirk/Linacre Road when St Andrew's Hall was bombed during the May Blitz with a heavy loss of life including 5 WVS ladies helping out in the hall, which was full of bombed-out people. The bodies were moved to Marsh Lane morgue, it being bombed too. The bodies couldn't be indentified and were buried in a mass grave
