Yes, all metal fencing was taken, it turned out some metal couldn't be used, but it was good for moral for people to help with the war effort. If you look at old coping on walls in Litherland, you can see where the railings have been cut. Sefton Road is a good place to see this and in Litherland Park.
During WWII, when scrap metal was collected, some of it wasn't suitable and it was dumped at sea, which the public didn't know about.
