Have 3 kids with husband #1. But he’s too poor to support them, so divorce.

Marry rich Doctor as husband #2 to take care of kids. Divorce when his $$$ is no longer needed.

Marry 3rd husband to presumably live out the golden years? I mean who leaves a doctor to marry a HS band teacher, especially a woman in her 50s?

Doc seems like an idiot to be hung up on this woman and her kids, and he probably feels betrayed knowing he wasted his life on her when he could have created his own family. This situation probably ends in Doc’s suicide or the ex getting breast cancer as payment for her sins. If either happen I wouldn’t call it a tragedy but just desserts. Marriage to be is sacred. Do it once. If it doesn’t work out, that’s it. People that marry 2-3 times don’t even take it seriously.

as silly as he was for not seeing the red flags, she seems to be a truly selfish and deviant person.

i suspect it crossed her mind at some point that she may be able to have doc's money without doc. feels like it could have easily spun in the direction of one of those hour shows where the woman pumps up the guy's life insurance before he is found to have died via home "accident."

Is Doc one of those very lowly thought of doctors though? Like a podiatrist? Not much prestige there.

The only way this makes any sense is that Doc knew her since high school, and had a crush on her then. They reconnect as adults and he thinks she's meant for him.

There's just no way any Doctor meets a random woman with 3 kids and says "Yeah, I'll take care of you. Let's get married". No Doctor is going to go fishing in those ponds.

She's clearly an opportunist. First husband probably good looking so she wanted to mate and have good looking kids. But he's poor and she wants a comfortable life for her and the kids, so she finds Doc. Then when the kids are mostly grown up and no need for a stable family life, she decides to get with a free spirit hippy band teacher/professor.

There's no morals here. No God fearing people. People acting selfishly and doing what is right in their own eyes. Wretched people.

first let me disclaim that im not here to demean doc. i dont think he's a bad guy- in fact, he seems to be a good guy (insofar as i find him generally well intentioned). he just is overly-emotional and makes bad decisions.

a few quick observations:

1- posting family drama (particularly when said drama involves a minor child) on a public message board is not the most dignified move.

2- who is the adult here? his response is overly emotional (which seems to be his brand) and positions him almost as a peer to the kids rather than an authority.

3- hanging a pic of you kissing someone is kind of a weird move. i'll concede i could just be old fashioned in this regard, but it struck me as tacky.

4- what's the ultimate motivation behind the removal of the pic? imo, its homage to doc. i suspect the kid misses the family unit that he grew up having and seeing the image of doc with a new woman is a painful reminder of what was lost.

it's an immature move by a kid to remove a picture from the wall space... but a kid is by definition not mature. i suspect things were better for the kids with doc in the mix than with the trombone guy who just crashed the party a year or two ago. so, if im doc, i take it as a sort of compliment. the message i hear is that they miss him being the step dad. its an opportunity to have a conversation that repairs that relationship.

5- regarding that convo, docs apparent plan of sitting them down for a "tell all" about their mom.... just an all-time awful idea. again, i appreciate that its an emotional situation, and his instinct is to redirect their angst to the guilty party, but thatd be a pretty immature and destructive move. there are much better ways to handle it.
