Recall the Bush administration got him to go before the world and claim that Iraq had WMD. Much of this was based on bad intelligence. I can imagine that he feels burned by the whole deal. With that being said, its no excuse for him to rush to support the liberals. Kasich is a complete and absolute pile of shit. I can't think of anything to excuse his behavior.
