I have recently inherited 4 LC Smiths. The oldest is the double hammer. The only serial number I could find was in the break. It is 16 455 4 F. Can anyone tell me anything about this gun?

Your family had good taste Jim There is a great deal of information on the Home Page under 'Shotguns' and 'FAQ' https://lcsca.clubexpress.com/
If the SN is 164554 it is a 'F' (lowest) grade made prior to WWI
Utility grade hammerless and hammer guns were ordered in bulk by hardware and sporting goods stores and it is unlikely that a Research Letter would document to where the gun was originally shipped. A Letter might do so if your other guns are higher grade or post-WWI, and possibly the original purchaser.
The barrels should be Royal Steel and would be so marked just forward of the flats
The gun should of course be evaluated by a double gun specialist before use. The smith could verify the gauge and the choke constrictions.
