Variation

I have a 12 gauge field grade fw188829 made in 1939. It has been in my family's possession since at least the early 60s. It has a stainless steel grip cap that I know is not standard. My question is would this have been an option available from the factory or a later add on.

Michael anything is possible. When owned and run by the Hunter family it stated you could order anything within reason. But most likely someone added it. IF it looks good leave it, the person who did it must have liked it to do it.

I think its a nice touch. Looks like it belongs there. I know a lot of makers offered special touches on request. I would have never known about it if I hadn't sent it off to be restocked. Another thing about it that has me scratching my head is that the receiver is marked fw but the barrels are not but numbers match. The forearm number is from 1940 rather than 1939.
