Serial # on Damascus barrels

I am looking at a LC Smith model 2E with damascus barrels. My question is is the serial number supposed to be stamped on barrels? All I see is 2E stamped on it. Thanks for any response

On the action flats, barrel flats and FE iron Brian.
This is a 1906 non-ejector No. 00

I don't recall ever seeing a Smith without a SN. Maybe Dr Jim could comment.

I've not seen an L.C. Smith without a serial number. Even the "seconds" were stamped with serial numbers. However, I have learned that I should "never say never" when dealing with these shotguns.
