Ebony insert

What is the best route to have a ebony forend insert replaced on a grade 3 Smith? Recommendations on who to do it and a idea of the cost? Thank you in advance

Brian, if you have some basic wood working skills you can accomplish this yourself. Go to exoticwoods.com and buy a small piece of ebony. A small trim small and a dremel tool can be used to cut, fit and shape the wood. I use 220 and then 350 grit sandpaper for final sanding and 2 or 3 coats of oil for finishing. Thank you Mr Tom. I have considered doing it myself. I was just going to take the easy route and subcontract it. I still may end up doing it.

Contact Lou Rotelli lrotelli1@gmail.com. He just restored a Grade 3 that was missing an ebony insert, I saw the gun, really nice job!

I'll vote for Lou also-he repaired an insert on an Ideal Grade of mine, really nice job.

It's a grade 3, not a Monogram. Pour black bedding compound with suitable dams and file and sand it flush.

Jerry Andrews replaced mine on an Ideal. Mine was with automatic ejectors, which is, I imagine, more difficult than replacing on an extractor gun.

I had a Quality 2 10 that was missing the inlay and Danny Patton mixed up bedding compound added a bit of die sanded and it looked fine .
