Question on reloading

I'm a novice to reloading and am looking at reloading some 12 ga. for my Elsie. Found a good recipe on the Hodgdon site that will give me 1200fps @ 6600psi. Calls for Cheddite hulls. Found some 2 3/4 "unskived," primed plastic hulls on one of the web sites. What is an unskived hull and is this what I want? Could really use some direction on this one.

A skived hull has had the inside opening of the hull (about the last quarter inch) thinned a bit to make it easier to crimp. Unskived hills will be harder to crimp plus the crimp may not stay closed. Ballistic Products sells a device you can use in a power drill to skive a hull.

I would really suggest you try to find the some once fired hulls to load. It will simplify your life.

I would also suggest reading a couple of books about shotshell reloading. Two good ones would be the Lyman Shotshell Reloading Handbook (I think the most current is the 5th Edition) and the Ballistic Products Advantages Manual. The Ballistic Products manual specifically talks about skiving hulls.

Just wanted to add that Ballistic Products has skived Cheddite hulls for sale. They also have a selection of once fired hulls.

Place a WTB hulls on the the buy-sell web site. There are many LC posters who have once and twice fired hulls, Remington brass
base STS, Nitros, and steel base Gun clubs for reloading.

Thank you sir, I'll do that. I've one some reloading of shotshells, however my reloading experience is mainly in rifle ammo.

Thanks much, I'll check them out. I will be reloading both 12 gauge, 2 3/4" and 16 gauge 2 1/2"
