1920 Specialty advice needed.

I have the opportunity to buy a 1920 specialty grade, in 20 gauge, 28 inch barrels, double triggers, with beautiful wood. The issue is the gun supposedly weighs 7lbs 2oz. I’m an upland hunter so I typically like guns in the 6.5lb range. Isn’t that pretty heavy for a 20 gauge?

That would be heavier than the catalog listing Travis. Wood density obviously contributes to the weight and if the wood is particularly nice that may be part of it.

The shipping records do not typically include the weight of the finished gun.

The Specialty was a custom order gun; the original purchaser could have specified gun weight.

I have an 1896 No. 2E (No.2's became Specialty Grade after 1912) with 30" Damascus barrels, the gun weighs 8 lbs. 15 ozs which I thought was very heavy. I sent for a Research Letter and it stated gun was ordered to weigh 9 lbs. Taking off the butt plate there is a 7/8" hole filled with lead.
It is not uncommon to find these guns weighing more than listed in catalogs.
