Here's the skinny after a wonderful weekend down in Georgetown. What used to be the Sub-Gauge, 5 Stand, Smith vs Parker Challenge events contested on Thursday each year has evolved into the All-Manufacturers Compak Sporting Events. The 16 & 20 gauge events were held on one 5 stand venue, and the 8, 10, & 12 gauge events were held on the elevated covered 5 stand venue. The 8 gauge was added this year, and the .410 and 28 gauge were dropped. LC Smith was High Gun in the 12, 16, & 20 gauge events, and the only entrant in the 8 gauge event shot a Parker, so Parker got us on that one! There were no 10 gauge entrants so no one brought home that trophy. After two days of qualifying rounds, the hammerless LC Smith vs Parker Challenge event was contested at 4 PM on Saturday afternoon. Team Parker out shot us by one bird (118 to 119) after some really great shooting by both teams. Congratulations to our Parker Brethren on their victory! The LC Smith vs Parker Hammer Gun Challenge was contested on Sunday morning. Team Parker only fielded 4 shooters for this event, so the teams were made up of the top 4 shooters for each manufacturer. When the smoke cleared, Team Elsie was on top by 13 birds (92-105). There were lots of other great events shot on Ricks fantastic sporting clays courses, and the results for each and every one are posted on the venues website Backwoodsquailclub.com under the drop-down upcoming events/Side By Side. It was great seeing all that could make it, and I'm already looking forward to next year!
