We don't have all the information finalized yet, but it looks like 20g and 16g challenge will be all day Thursday on the Dove Field 5-Stand. Qualification for the LC Smith/ Parker Challenge will be on the Main Dove Field 5-stand Friday and Saturday before the Challenge itself Saturday afternoon. Rules will be the same as last year and will be posted here along with the final schedule in a couple of weeks.

Will we be allowed to use a 12 gauge SXS with 20 gauge BRILEY tubes installed to shoot the 20 gauge 5 STAND contest in 2023??? Last year that was allowed and a bunch of shooters did it. On THURSDAY back in 2022 in the 20 gauge and 16 gauge 5 STAND contest the management allowed BRILEY tubes to be used..... I was shocked but it was not my responsibility to make that decision ..... posted by Jent.

Sub Gage tubes have always been allowed if the barrels are Damascus.

Rick, will the sub ga be shot only on Thursday?

Hello Terry, I am talking about the THURSDAY and THURSDAY only 5 Stand Event. This is where the guys were shooting only 20 gauges or 16 gauges in a preliminary event. Some guys were shooting 12 gauge guns with 20 gauge briley tubes installed and shooting that gun in a 20 gauge event as a 20 gauge. Like I said I was not responsible for that event and I did not write the rules for that event but I was shocked to see those briley tubes allowed and used as if the gun was a real 20 bore gun. The use of briley tubes on FRIDAY and SATURDAY at the 5 Stand is not in question. Briley tubes and Chamber Mates have always been allowed on FRIDAY and SATURDAY because on FRIDAY and SATURDAY that shoot is not divided up by gauge. The shooter can use any ORIGINAL Parker or L C Smith of any gauge on FRIDAY and SATURDAY at the 5 Stand for the CHALLENGE CUP and tubes are specifically allowed in the CHALLENGE CUP 5 Stand event. posted by Jent on March 10 of 2023.

OK, two questions, I can answer one. The rules say Chamber Mates and tubes (including Briley) can only be used with Damascus and Twist steel barrels. They said that last year, too, so if people were using them on the 5 stand for 16 and 20 gauge Challenge events it was against the rules. For the main Challenge event on Saturday afternoon and the qualifying rounds leading up to it, chamber reducers and full length tubes are only permitted in Damascus or Twist steel barrels, barrel liners must be in the same gauge in which the gun was originally shipped. Finalized rules for 2023 will be posted on the Forum in the next week or so, thanks for your patience. The question I can't answer yet is when Rick Hemingway will start and stop the sub gauge events and when he will start the main event qualifying rounds. I should know next week, stay tuned.

FWIW , a 10 gauge challenge event has been added this year . The past two years 16 and 20 could be shot Wednesday afternoon as well as Thursday . But it’s been brought to my attention u fortunately that Rick won’t be able to shoot for score on Wednesday just Thursday as stated above .

Jent, The official rules have been posted to the Forum. The rules for the 16/20g event state that "Modified guns are allowed, although all modified guns must be permanently chambered." So, no, you couldn't use your 12g with 16g or 20g Briley tubes installed. But, you could shoot that old 12g that you had permanently chambered down to 16g or 20g. That was the rule last year as well, but no one is assigned as an inspector and I suspect a few (probably Parker guys, LC Smith shooters would never do such a thing!) used tubes and got away with it. Any shooter who gets caught with removable tubes will have their score disqualified.

The sub gauge shoot qualifying rounds will be Thursday only from 8:30 am to 5;00 pm at which time the scores will be tallied. The top 5 scores in 16g and again for 20g for each Parker and LC Smith will be the teams, highest team score wins for each gauge.

There has been a change of plan. Rick Hemingway will be opening both 5 stands on the Dove Field Wednesday morning. I'll call them the Upper and the Lower 5 stands, the Upper being the one that has always been used for the challenge event on Saturday. The 16 and 20 gauge will be held all day both Wednesday and Thursday on the Lower 5 stand and you may shoot them as many times as you want. The top 5 scores in 16g and again for 20g for each Parker and LC Smith will be the teams, highest team score wins for each gauge. The Pump Gun competition (any bore, any manufacturer) will also be contested on the Lower Dove Field 5 stand all day, both Wednesday and Thursday and can be shot as many times as you want. Rick will be awarding HOA and runner-up awards for the Pump Gun competition at the end of shooting Thursday afternoon. All day Wednesday and Thursday there will also be a 12 gauge, any manufacturer completion on the Upper 5 stand and HOA and runner-up will also be awarded at the end of shooting Thursday afternoon. The times and venue for the LC Smith/Parker Challenge and Sunday's Hammer Gun Challenge remain unchanged.
