Grip Caps

Did all grade 3 LC Smiths have grip caps and if not when did they start using them?

No; the Grade 3 was always a special-order grade gun, and the customer could always choose from among the grip options offered by the company. Those options included the capped grip, a round knob grip, the rarely seen carved or "S" shaped grip, and a straight grip.
