We’re the pre-1913 Smiths engraving on the locks lighter than the post 1913 guns?

I know nothing about engraving technique Alan if that is your question. Certainly post-1913 patterns had a different style.

Here is a 2E made in 1914 (serial # 217xxx) that has the old scene from pre 1913, without the circles. I guess it is a transitional "2 E."

There were three styles of engravings for the No.2, yours is the last style.
I own serial number 216962 which was also made in 1914 and has the same engraving. The records show it was the last No. 2 recorded in the ledgers. Yours would be listed in the records as being a Specialty Grade and after 1913 the Specialty Grade took over the No. 2.
