Searching for L. C. Smith Gunsmith

I live in South Alabama and am looking for a L. C. Smith gunsmith to look at my SXS. Suggestions will be appreciated.

I can't seem to get the sidelocks back into the stock of my LC Smith double barrel damascus 12 gauge. What do I need to do? Thanks.

Is your gun a hammer or hammerless?
If a hammerless, are the hammers cocked?

The end of the cocking lever is in the up position in the image - it needs to be down

When replacing the sidelocks and tightening the connector screw, push down on the triggers

Drew...Thanks for your response. My LC Smith is a hammer shotgun. I took out the sidelocks with the hammers in the down (fired) position. They are not cocked. While snug, they came out without much effort. How what do I need to do to get them back in the stock? Thanks for your help. As a novice to sidelocks, I appreciate your input. Tom

Try cocking the hammers (not usually needed with hammer guns).
Push the triggers down (against the force of the return springs) as you replace the lockplate and connector screw.
David Williamson should have more suggestions regarding hammer locks.

Drew...I tried to cock the hammer when the sidelock was out of the stock only to have the lever/spring fall from the lock. It took some effort and a pair of small vise grips to get it back in. Fortunately, I had the other sidelock to see how it went back together. It seems that if the hammer was in the uncocked position when it came out of sidelock that it should go back in the same way with the exception that something has moved in the stock area where the sidelock was, keeping it from being seated properly. I've tried moving the trigger both forward and rearward, but the sidelock will not go it. Other suggestions? Anyone? Thanks for your replies. Tom

Drew...After close examination, I took a look at the top of the trigger as viewed through the hole in the stock where the release lever would rest. The top of the trigger has slight groves/gouges in it and the lever has a shiny area. To me, this indicates that there has been a problem of re-inserting the left sidelock in the past even though the trigger is pushed as far forward as possible when re-inserting the left sidelock. Having said all of that, I'm not sure how to push the trigger more forward to allow the lever to slip above it. Suggestions? Thanks, Tom

I took the hammer sidelocks to a local gunsmith today to see if he could re-insert them into the stock of the LC Smith. If they are ever successfully reunited with the stock, I'll never remove them again!

After removing the sidelocks, I could not get them back in. I took the shotgun to a local gunsmith who finally reinserted them. I'll not be removing them again! I plan to use the LC Smith during the Illinois spring turkey season, utilizing 80 gr. of FFg along with 1 oz. of #6 shot. My decoys will only be 20 yards from me, so it should work.
