Safe Ammunition - Water Fowl

Friends,

Would appreciate anyone's insight into the type of ammunition that can safely be used in my LC to hunt water fowl. I now have a Long Range, Specialty grade that will be with me in the duck blind this fall. Would prefer not to bugger her up by using damaging ammo. Experiences definitely welcome. This is my first time backin the blind in over 40 years and cannot wait.

John: both the Kent Tungsten Matrix and Bismuth are real boomers

I would be reluctant to use them unless the head of the stock has been glasbedded.

Kent also offers Bismuth in their Upland series. One is 1 1/16 oz at 1325 fps in 5s

Unfortunately finding any non-steel non-tox load is going to be tough. Please let us know how your search goes.

Next stop - glasbeddng. Need to find someone who would be able to do it before 27 November. Otherwise will need to wait until next year before I take her to the dance.

Was visiting the Cabela's in Thornton, Co this past weekend. They had 48 boxes of Kent, 2 3/4, #4, Bismuth on the shelf. I had 4 boxes in my cart but put them back. I just could not bring myself to spend $200 for 100 rounds. Anyway I wanted 3 inch loads just because. Time to start rolling my own. Have been wanting to load Bismuth with a roll crimp.

Appreciate the advice. And those Specialty grades sure look nice. Especially with a spare set of barrels.

John I have a 1940 Ideal that I shoot the Kent Bis in, 2 3/4 4 shot 1330 fps. kills like lead. Ballistic Products has Bismuth shot and all the roll your own stuff . I wouldn't get stuck on the 3 inch not that much extra benefit. The long range and all Smiths full and extra fulls shoot like rifles with lead/ bismuth loads. Take the old gal out with the 2 3/4 and pick your shots, life is to short. Enjoy and good luck. MY

Mike - Appreciate the Ballistic Products tip. Order forthcoming. And all the way home from Colorado I heard my dad advice about using three inch ammo "John, if you can't hit 'em with a 2 3/4 you won't hit 'em with a 3 inch (coal miner's expletive deleted). Should have listened. Thanks again.
