Case colors and factory finishes. A discovery

So… Today while bumbling around in the shop I discovered something I normally finish gunstocks with 75% orange shellac and 25% boiled linseed a mixture of these but today I put it on a newly case colored frame lock plates floor plate and that coloring came out about as close to factory as I’ve ever seen. I think the factory probably used it as well. Why I haven’t thought of this before now I don’t know. If I had a way to post pictures I would post the pictures

Jerry,
That is the same mixture I have used, I usually keep a Baby
Food jar with BLO loosely capped on the side and as it ages it turnes a darker color.

Jerry just to clarify, are you putting this on the metal or the wood? or both?

It goes on both. Just nothing like it to make the case colors correct, if your coloring process is correct.
