McDonald & Linforth, San Francisco

Starting about 1918 and until about 1938, Hunter Arms' magazine advertisements listed McDonald & Linforth as the Pacific coast agents. Surprisingly I can find little about the company, other than it was listed as a Manufacturer's Agent (or jobber) and apparently did not have a retail store. There was a Linforth, Kellogg & Co. hardware store in San Francisco in the late 1800s, but apparently not during this period. |
Interestingly, Parker ads during this time listed Capt. DuBray as the Pacific or West Coast agent, and Peters Cartridge listed Sloss & Brittain, San Francisco.
A 1923 ad in "Hunter - Trader - Trapper"
Neat 1936 ad
McDonald & Linforth was also the jobber for Benjamin Air Rifles; 1922 "Hardware World". I couldn't find any other firearm or ammo co. they represented.
No doubt Dr. Jim has seen lots of west coast orders through M&L.
It would be interesting to know how the concern got connected with Hunter Arms after the bankruptcy and before the purchase by the Simmons family in 1920.
