Splinter forend falls off

Hello I have 1922 Ideal grade 12ga with a splinter forend that comes off very easily with minimal pressure and will fall off while firing. It goes with what seems like a fair amount of pressure but doesn't seem like it latches very positively. You don't need to use the thumb release to remove the foreend, just need to pull very lightly and it comes straight off. Any thoughts? I don't want to fill on the barrels or cause any further damage. Is this something a qualified gunsmith can rectify?

Chris,

I have to look at a couple of ideals with the roller release, if yours snaps on with a good snapping sound I would look at the roller in the roller release. If I recall correctly it has a notch in the roller that engages the J spring . The notch may be dirty or not trapping the J spring. I will look at mine tonight and report back.

Chris,
When the roller is rotated forward it retracts a lever, that lever locks into the lug on the barrel. The front of the lug has a catch machined into it. With the fore arm off look into the slot the J spring folds into and turn the thumb wheel. You should see the lever move forward. Hope this helps. Thank you for your response. I think someone did some filing on the barrel lug on mine. I found a good gunsmith in my area that is looking at it now and he believes that he can fix it. He has worked on L.C.'s in the past.
