My ‘Home’ shooting range is the Prince George’s Trap and Skeet Center in Glen Dale Maryland. It’s operated by the County Parks and Planning Commission, a Government run range. It’s been a wonderful place for a couple decades of gun fun. This is our New Normal This is what is being done “to keep us safe”. There are no golf carts, no chance for BS’ng w/friends in the club house - face masks, no chairs to sit on in the club house, plexiglass cage at the sales counter, no shirt, shooting jacket, equipment sales, no gun rentals. Seating is limited at the fields - 6 ft. distancing required. We need to make appointments for sporting clays shooting. Pullers are mandatory - can’t pull your own targets. The puller sprays/disinfects the electronic equipment. That’s the new normal tale. Gotta run - heading over to the eastern shore to shoot today w/friends. Whew! Gonna be hot today. Roger
Club policies vary somewhat here in NC. Most rely on our common sense. One club used to have their office in the basement of the owners' home. They have moved it outside, installed a small office away from the house, and use zero-contact check in/payment. Others operate in virtually the same way they did 6 months ago.
Your "New Normal" beats the heck out of mine. While we've got access to a coupe of sporting clays venues within a couple of hours travel, our local skeet, trap, and 5-stand venue is also a Gov't run facility. Or should I say "Not Run" facility, as they've been shut down entirely for months. Oceana Naval Air Station has a great facility, but when I finally did Get a human to answer the phone at the clubhouse last week and asked the manager when he thought things might re-open, his answer was...."If I knew that, I'd tell everybody else that calls and asks". Nice huh?
Steve and John Thanks for your comments. It’s good to know what’s happening in the shooting community. Today I shot w/friends at Schraders on the eastern shore of Maryland. All customers and staff use face masks in the club house. There are long tables w/chairs & 6 feet distancing is possible. There are golf carts available for rental. Face masks are not required while shooting. We pull our own targets. Schraders is a good shooting venue. We’ll shoot at Pintail Point next week. Pintails hours have been shortened probably temporarily. Later. Roger
