Forend

I have a #3 grade L.C., with a push on, pull off spring loaded forend, that works fine, but in its wood center, it had a round circle, about the dia. of a quarter, that contained some decoration now long gone, so someone filled that round hole up with epoxy. I wish to restore whatever was in the hole, so tell me, or better yet, post a picture of similar push on forends, showing what was there, and can I find such a reproduction somewhere? Thanks.

This Bakelite forend insert was standard on pre-1913 Smith extractor No. 2 and up

Jack, Dr. Drew's choice is what I use. This replacement will come a bit oversize. I've found that it's best to use a heat gun to form it to the contour of your forend before grinding/sanding to fit.
