Jay, 1887 would be my guess. The hammerless guns started at 16000 in August 1886 and then went to 18000, 19000, 20000, 22000, and the last I have with L.C. Smith Maker on top rib is 23553. After this they have the attributes of a Syracuse L.C. Smith but do not have any makers name on barrels. It would be interesting if any show up having said markings with a later serial number. |
The L.C. Smith Gun Company in Syracuse was sold in 1888, what month I do not know, but the Hunter Arms Co. was started in 1889 with the total made of 12000. These were all hammer guns, no hammerless guns made. Also there were no guns made in the 24000 block of serial numbers.
