I recently received an LC Smith Ideal grade Shot gun in excellent condition. I was wondering what type of metal is the face plate and receiver made of. Looks like silver or Pewter. Slight tarnishing on metal. Should I polish this fine gun or leave it the way it is, do not want to diminish its value. Parkelectric@verizon.net

The action and sideplates were originally case color hardened Bob, and the colors wears over time. The trigger guard and screws were Nitre Blued. This Ideal is fairly high condition, but some areas are a pewter color
The remaining % of case colors from new is one measure of condition of the gun. A near 100% Field grade.
