12 ga L.C. Smith Double Barrel - recently inherited

I just inherited this gun from my late father. I don't know much about it but I'm told its a 12 gauge and I see what I think is a serial number of 88879F. Other than that, I don't know what other identifiers to look for that could provide more info. Wondering if its worthy of further attention or if I should just get rid of it?

Welcome Jill. Your father's L.C. Smith hammer gun is a 'F' or lowest grade, made about 1901. It could have Royal Steel or possibly Twist barrels. If in poor condition it has little value; if in high condition (very little wear on the wood and barrels with bright case colors) $500-$700. A gun shop would give you about 2/3 of that.
