.410 Question

I have a 1950 .410 which I took on opening day of dove season. This is the first time I have fired the .410. It has an odd feature, the front trigger fires the left barrel. Was this a common option?

Most likely the gun was originally ordered by a southpaw who specifically requested the left side fire first. This is not an unusual request but the first example I've seen noted in .410. What are the chokes? Most .410's were shipped with both barrels choked full and full; if that's true with your gun then the order of firing will make little, if any difference. Hope you did well on the dove shoot!

Thanks for the reply. I will report what chokes it has once I get a choke gauge. I should have acquired on 20 years ago.

Tom: After acquiring a choke gauge, the right barrel in cylinder, and the left is modified. this gun is an oddity with the barrels choked for a righty, and the triggers set up for a lefty.

For incoming birds, such as doves, that barrel/trigger setup works perfectly for taking the first incomer out aways, with the full choke barrel, then taking the second at close range with the cylinder barrel. I do this often by going to the rear trigger first, then to the front.

Your gun may have been ordered by a man who knew exactly what he wanted.

Unfortunately, information on firing order was never entered into the Hunter Arms Company ledgers.
