I have acquired a 20ga L C Smith and have a question on the serial Number--it is 11890 R and also has "I" on the water table what does the R and I stand for?? I believe the DOM is 1916.
Thanks Tom Poss 301-514-3900 cell

Tom, 1916 would be the correct date of manufacture. The suffix "R" nobody knows what that means but is usually associated with guns that have the Curtis for-end release. After 1919 all non ejector guns above Ideal Grade had the roller release with the banjo escutcheon and the Curtis for-end was discontinued.
