L. C. Smith Back In The Family

I have a very old L. C. Smith 12 gauge that has a very colorful history. You'd probably enjoy reading the history of this gun--how it came to our family, departed 3 times, and is now back with me.

I have a question, though, about the grade of the gun. I did see a listing of various grades on this excellent website, but on the barrel it says 'Trap Grade'. I didn't see Trap as one of the grades on the list. Can someone please enlighten me about Trap Grade?

FWIW: The serial number on my L. C. Smith is 354331. It looks like it was made in the 1890's, assuming I'm reading the table correctly.

Roy: your treasure was made in 1916. Go to the Home Page and look under "Shotguns" then "Grades".

A Research letter might list the original purchaser.

If you're willing to put pen to paper, (or finger to keyboard) I'll guarantee we'd enjoy reading about your Boomerang Elsie. Interesting stories of family guns are some of my favorite reads in the quarterly LC Smith Journal. Even if you're not a member of the LCSCA (YET!), I'll send you a copy of the Journal with your article in it when it runs, so you can keep it in the family with the gun. Oh, and put another lock on that darn gun-safe so that rascal stays in the family!
