Re: Long Range Specialty Grad/Ideal Grade Markings Question

The inconsistencies surrounding Long Range guns have plagued me, as well. There are many factory 3" guns (have the factory chamber stamp on the barrel flats) out there that are not marked "Long Range" and won't letter as an LR gun. Those that do letter are usually stamped as such, but not always. I still have an Ideal that has factory 3" chambers and the reinforced lug, but is not stamped "Long Range" and doesn't letter that way. Interestingly, in the letter on that gun from Jim S., he said that one of the ledger columns contained a "3" - could that have meant the chamber length? For such a simple and inexpensive option, you would think they would have set a standard. It also seems that the later the gun, the more likely it is to not have the reinforcement. Here's a link to a thread from a few years ago where we debated the subject. It's long but lots of info here.
