Original Front Bead

Hi All,

I have an LC Smith Ideal Grade that has been refinished (I think fairly recently). The gun was made in 1940-45. It has what I am fairly sure was an unoriginal bead. I have a photo but was having problems posting. Did LC Smith's ever have an original bead that was not a simple basic bead? This bead is mounted on a blade type site with the bead on the end of the blade pointing towards the breach of the barrels. Again, I am almost positive this is not original but didn't want to remove it and find out it was original. Thanks, Ron

Hi Ron,
Bradley was an option which was available.
Google 'Bradley shotgun bead' and you will be able to compare the picture to your bead.

Dan, Thanks for the help. I was able to unscrew the bead as it was actually threaded and the hole was also. I checked the threads and seemed to be a metric thread so pretty sure this bead was not original.

Ron, In a 1946 Repair Price List for L.C. Smith Guns and Fulton Guns from The L.C. Smith Gun Company, Inc. (Division of Marlin Firearms Co. They list Lyman Sights fitted, $1.15, Marble Sights, fitted, $1.75, Bradley Sights, fitted, $2.50 and Bras Sights, fitted, $.50.
So your gun would be right with the Bradley Sight.

On a few of my Ideal Grades made earlier, thee have an ivory bead.

Hi David, Thanks for your response. I will send you a photograph of the actual gun site so you can see if you think it actually original. I was not able to post a photo on this website or would just post the photo here.
